Other proper tire sizes besides 195/65-15
Dear friends,
I have a 1994 MERCEDES BENZ C220 202 CHASSIS, whose original factory tire size is 195/65-15. Could someone please tell me the other various tire sizes (besides the original size) that can fit well with my ORIGINAL wheels? Thank you very much in advance. Eric |

If you go to 225/60 x 15, you will have a speedo reading 3% low. (Remember MB speedos read roughly 5 mph fast anyway).
If you're picky and want a plug-n-go replacement try 215/60 x 15, these are almost exactly the same rolling radius as standard. There may be clearance issues (say, at full lock) with these larger sizes, but I would say the extra grip is worth it.........

My 1998 C230 came with 195/65-15 tires on the OE steel wheels. I have used a 205/60-15 for one season (last summer) and liked the size. No loss of ride quailty, and decent stick.
The main reason to go to 205/60-15 is the greater selection of tires in that size.

I have 195/60/15s on my 190e.
I'm thinking lowering and switching to 195/50/15s. What would be the consequences on the speedo? Azhari Babybenz 1991 190e 1.8 |

Don't do 195/50/15s
First, you'll be below the recommended load carrying capacity. Second your speedo will be off a very good amount. ABS and all those other things might get affected for being off so much.
Stock size is 185/65/15. Going to a 195/50/15... will be more then the 2.5% recommended window. Acutally its about 3 times that, about 7.5% and close to 2" off overal diameter. If you really want, though I don't recommend it, go to 205/55/15. Even on stock rims, its better then 195/50/15. I had for a small period of time that size on my stock wheels, and though it wasn't that bad, its still seemed a lil too wide for stock wheels. They look better though on my 15x6.5 E420 8-hole Polished wheels though. (only 15s that clear my 400E brakes) But 195/60/15s are a good size, and if you want to stay stock then goto 205/55/15s.

195/50/15
Just converted a friend of mine (now an ex-Civic owner) by helping him sort out a deal on a 1992 190e 1.8.
I liked the wheels on his (7-spoke W220-type with 195/65/15s) and he, on mine (8-spoke original Merc with 195/60/15s). Hell, it was like something out of the twilight zone...anywayz, we did a swap today. I hate to admit it, but though they look kinda "thick", the 65s provide a really comfy ride... But I'm still tempted by those dang 50s... Azhari Babybenz 1991 190e 1.8 |

195/50-15
Wait until you see how goofy your car looks with those tires. Your wheel-well gap will be HUGE, and the car will look funny, indeed. 2" shorter is too much.
If you truly want to go to a much shorter sidewall, then you'll have to increase the wheel size. Go to either a 16" or even a 17" wheel. I put 205/55-16's on my 190E, and they worked okay. Looked great. I used that tire size as there are lots of good tires in that size. Very common.

You're damn right...
Yeah, John...I can imagine!
My kid bro has 195/55/15s with 15" AMG Monoblocks on his Kidbenz and they look OK (his car is lowered). Just thought of using 50s and lowering the front as well to keep it LOW and still have the sidewall short (i like the look). Anyway, that was my idea, i guess... Thanks for the advice! Correct Sizes
I have my car lowered a good amount, and am using 215/40/17s. Now If I could, I'm going to go back to 225/40/17s.
But it seems on stock rims, 195/60/15, or 205/55/15. If you go to 16s though, go 205/50/16. That would be the look you are going for, plus won't alter the load ratings. Just imagine going into a turn, and all the weight of your car transfering forward and your tires are under capacity.
