I believe the proper wheel size for an 88 420SEL stated in MB terms is 6,5J15H2 ET21,5. That would be 6.5" wide, 15" rim, 21.5mm offset. The J and H2 mean something but I don't remember what.
The 86-87 S-class came with 7J15H2 ET25. Possibly later S-class cars also came with 7" wheels. I don't know the rhyme or reason. I know for sure that 8J16H2 ET34 wheels from a 90-91 SL will not fit the rear of a 126 sedan (yours included) without spacers. Seem to fit up front. Offset is dependent on wheel width. 25mm offset on a 7" wide wheel will fit. 25mm offset on a 10" wide wheel will not. In your other post you asked about wheels off a late model MB. The wheel bolt patterns are the same but the later cars have a bigger or smaller centering hub that causes fitment problems. Whether or not you can attach them to your car, the pros in the tech help forum suggest against it. Sixto 91 300SE 87 300SDL 83 300SD |
