8-hole 16" rim question
Hi all,
I'd like to change my wheels to a 16" 8-hole non-polished type. Does MB have these for my application, i.e. '87 260E W124. There's a special on tireract for an AT Italia Type-8. Would this be a good compromise. thanks,

Go call or visit your local MBZ dealer and they will show you a wheel catalog of available wheels. The wheels from Tirerack should be a good price ... the AT 8 hole design looks like the real McCoy and at 115 clams each, a very good buy.
Good luck ...

Other members of this forum have said that the AT Italias have an odd finish. They said that on the "main" part of the wheel it is silver like you'd expect it to be, but then on the area in the holes it is a different finish, kinda grayish or something like that. The wheels are probably fine, just that finish is a little off. I personally haven't seen it with my own eyes, but this is what people have said here. One guy recommended RH Alurad wheels as an aftermarket company. They also make the 8 holers, but the finish is the same all around...and they are made in Germany from what I understand if that makes any difference.
Since you have a W124 and these 8 holers came on that model from the factory, won't you shop around at some salvage yards for a used set? You may also keep a watch out on ebay. This way you'll have MB wheels, if it makes any difference to ya.

Come to think of it, the factory ones were 15s, right?? RH Alurad does make 16s too. I bet used 15s would be cheaper though...

8-hole
i think all of the OE 8 slot wheels had the 2-tone finish except the few that were raw polished aluminum. the finish looks fine.
as for TR, the price IS very good value. also... i could be misinformed, but i was told that the OE 16" 8-slots were for the bigger cars such as the "S" class, and that they used a 14mm bolt instead of the much more common 12mm bolt. the ATs from TR offer a direct fit for your application. i looked for months locally and on EB, and could not find an acceptable set (undamaged) for a decent price. finally purchased 16" aftermarket on EB for $400 shipped. |

If you are looking for a 16" 8-hole wheel, you must shop in the aftermarket. Hope this helps. |
