will a 16 by 7.5 wheel fit on a 205/55/16 tire on a 87 300e? Also im considering either getting chrome wheels or polished ones. I think chrome sorta adds a cheap ghetto look to the car. Your opinions appreciated.

Hi - welcome to the forum! 16x7.5 rims should work well on your 300e from what I understand, and the tire size is very good for that rim. However, you will have to worry about the proper rim offset. for a w-124 300e, 1985-1995, the correct offset for that wheel seems to be between 35 and 41 mm, with the 35 mm looking more aggresive (wheels further out from the wheelwell), and 41 looking more stock (wheels deeper in the wheel well). This may differ if you have a different year 300E. There is a good discussion on offset in the archives. Use the search function and search for the words "technical question" and "offset" under the wheels and tires section.

I don't know(ghetto look),maybe Ebonics or something. I have 16X7.5 chrome Lorinser RS90's on my '86 300E. Now what do you mean cheap ghetto look? There are alot of Benz' out there with chrome rims and depending on one's "TASTE", the chrome look is a good look. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!

Momentum:
I forgot to add earlier, my understanding is that the chroming process slightly weakens the wheel, but not enough to be a problem for most street usage. Lots of room for personal choice. I have seen some very tasteful chrome rims, some rims that seem to look best when painted silver, and combinations. I saw a nice set of rims that had been painted body color, with polished aluminum edges on the rim and vent holes. What you like is what works best for you. . Have a good one! ------------------ JCE 87 300E, 65k miles Smoke Silver |
