Chrome wheels
On my 1988 420 SEL there were chrome wheels on it. The cover plate which covers the lugs is about 5'' in diameter and chrome with the benz emblem that is brass in color with a screw stud on it to hold the platic clip which hold it on the wheel. Well it came off, and was lost. I called mercedes and they said they don't sell chrome wheels. but when i went to a wheel shop, thay said it looks like mercedes wheel. After checking their data base of all wheels for 15" wheels for that year they found nothing. Can anyone shed some light on this situation. Mr. Smoothy

MB does not sell chrome wheels because the chroming process weakens the wheel. Additionally it is very common for the chrome to peel.
The cover you describe is aftermarket anyway. I think you can get if from a company called Adsit. Do a google search. Also try contacting the Fastlane people on this site and see if they have a supplier for this part. Good luck, |

My 98 E320 has Mercedes chrome wheels. However the car arrived at the dealership without chrome wheels and the dealer had sent them out to be chrome plated. It is common for certain options to be done by the dealer such as CD changers, "Gold Emblems" & chrome wheels.
Try your local dealer for the part.
