DOT code for year tire mfg.?
Can anyone tell me the code D.O.T. uses to mark on each tire when the tire was manufactured? I bought a 380 SEL with tires that may need replacing and I thought I would see how old they are.
Thanks, Scott

Try the above link. Some tyres coaaru only a 3 digit code, not 4. So I would guess the firsr 2 digits are week code whilst last single digit means year within the decade. Chif |

Somewhere on the sidewall, usually the inside face, will be a series of letters followed by three numbers such as 393; "39" indicates the week of the year and the last digit is the year, which could be 1983 or 1993. Few tire models are in production for ten years, so detemining the decade may require knowing the approximate time frame that the tire in question was in production.
Beginning about 2000 two digits were used for the year, so we won't have to guess the decade in the future. A tire manufactured in late January this year would be coded 0403. Duke |

Thank you both for your replies. I see that two of the tires were made in 1995; good tread in the middle but a bit worn on the sides.
