Switching 14" to 15" rims Any noticeable changes?
I have the option of getting 15" rims at a very good price-next to nothing-is it worth the switch?
More importantly-What difference will 1" make ?? Opinions please!!!!!! -M |

Mel,
If you adjust the tyres aspect ratio so that the rolling radius is the same as before , the difference is likely to be: Upside: Better turn-in and quicker response to the steering. More grip (because the tyre will be wider) Downside: More harshness fed through to the body. Tyres will probably cost more. Sounds like an easy choice to me..............

Thanks,
I can put up with a bit harsher ride, more expensive tire (tyre), just curious if there was much of a difference in handling. Cheers! P.S. I have a lovely white plate on the front, yellow on the rear ( both under my Ct. plates) ( a small frame yellow in my desk drawer for another car if I need that size) |

Looks - bigger rims look better most of the time.
Ride comfort - I use to have 195/60/15s on my MB 8-holes and they were comfortable enough.I swapped these wheels for my friend's 7-Spoke W220-type rims with 195/65/15s and the ride comfort is even better. No rubbing but I think anything bigger would definitely rub the fender on the front. My kid bro's 190e runs on 15" AMG Monoblocks with 205/55/15s.Handling is good and ride comfort is almost no different from mine.He lowered the car a little to decrease the gaps in the wheel wells due to the lower profile of the tyres.Hi scar looks more muscular becoz of the wider tyres. No rubbing with these sizes. Tyres cost a little more but worth every extra dollar for the handling and looks! My 2 cents. |
