ML 320 NEW TIRES needed.

hey all,
Just got back from a road trip. discovered one tire has a big gash in it. Was looking into new tires since they already have 30K miles on them.
I have a 2001 320 with the stock tires. I like the handling on it, but the road noise is a bit loud. Any suggestions on a new set of tires? Plus i was wondering if i could also fit wider tires than the stock 255 60s. any help would be greatl appreciated! thanks all!

275/60/16 instead of 255/65/16.

There is probably one tire out there that would work...

Its a pirelli Scorpion Zero. I don't know why, but when you do the search, the Dunlop Sport Rover GTX doesn't show up. It goes for $143 but comes with a 50k warranty. Its a very decent tire, and more on-road performance then off-road. Thats why the stock 255/65/16s are so noisy, because of their off-road treat pattern. The 275s will fit fine on 16x8s.

In the stock size, the Kumhos. Real great tire, and on special right now for $84.

If you install 275's on an 8" wide wheel, good luck trying to keep this vehicle on the road.
Don't ask me how I know.

yeah...i was thinking that 275 might be a bit too wide for the stock rims. Which could lead to some control problems. I might go for the rare 265 or just stick with stock size. . But if anyone knows for a fact that 275 will be trouble, please let me know.

The scorpions are pretty expensive. But i'll keep looking. Thanks!
BTW.. how much are you selling your 99 ML for?

Since you mentioned it.
I've tried 275's on 8 " rims and can tell you, that you will not keep your vehicle in a straight line on the road.
The tire will wiggle & waddle ( flex ), on the rim, it will make you seasick.
All you have to do is stand beside the vehicle and push the body from side to side. The problem is very visible, when your watching the tires.
I have since changed to 255, and the ride/handling is about perfect.

275s depends on the tire

I know I've road in a 275/60/16 ML320...It was on stock rims with spacers and OEM flares. It was fine, but thas with the Dunlops which I heard were stiff!!

In all though, the 255/65/16 in Kuhmo's will be night and day as well.

Also my ML430 is one of those not in a hurry to sell like my 190E and am looking for about NADA's trade in. People say NADA is not a good scale, but hey if thats what I get taxed by my DMV, its what I look at :p

besides we all put crazy miles on the car, this year alone the ml430 got 30k put on it. Total is close to 80k. 190E is at 160k. The previa died at 240k. The m3 was bought with 48k in Sept, and it has 70k now.

I guess I should say entertaining offers
