Smile Tire profile

Hi
Right now I have low profile tires on my 76 450 SL, I understand handling improves but the ride really suffers. I find the ride rough but the car hugs sweeping curves very well. If I go back to the normal 14 x 7 wheels and tires will the ride be too soft? or can I get a smaller diameter tire for the stock wheels?

Thanks for the help

I think it would help if you tell us your current tire size, so we can make suggestions for alternatives.

So far, you have the basics correct.
Lower aspect ratio tires improve handling/response, at the expense of ride comfort.
But, there is more to it than just tires ( springs, shocks, etc. ).

Sorry, didn't have the car with me at work. When I bought her she had 225-50-R16s and there is indications that the rear tires some times rubs the outter fender.
You mentioned springs and shocks? suggestions?

Thanx Rick

You may want to look at 215/55/16.
That's what I'm running, and I believe it to be a perfect mix between handling & ride comfort.
The difference between 50's and 55's is very noticeable, even though it doesn't sound like much on paper.
This should also eliminate you rubbing problem.
