Folks what are your thoughts on plus sizing for a 2000 model S430. Is plus 2 the maximum I should consider? Appearance would be a major factor that I would consider. I don't drive hard.

Will I need snow tires for the Philadelphia area and if so which are the best.

I've been looking at the rims on the tirerack site and I want to consider those as well as other options. I have read the warnings about the auction sites.

Thanks for your input.

Put the snow tires on the OEM rims for the winter and get some High Performance tires for the upgrade to 17 or 18 inch. Since you live in an area probably riddled with potholes go with a 17 inch wheel for the comfort and 18 only for the look and conversation.

re: "...and which [snow tires] are the best?..."
I posted this in another snow tire inquiry, above:
"...there is nothing that can beat the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 1...."
The Nokia tires (Nokia was the original name before they split off the cellphone business) have been the winter rallye winner's "secret" for decades. This model, the "Hakka 1", is the best application to a Mercedes in original size.

I have put 17's, 18's, & 19's on "S" class vehicles. for appearrance the 19's are show stoppers but, ride somewhat stiff. Careful driving can eliminate most of problems with wheel bending but, accidents do happen. 18's are very safe when you consider that the overall diameter of the tire for an S430 is 27". For the snow tire issue we are conducting our testing at this time and I will be posting some very attractive offers as well as the results.
Thanks, Luke
