what offset gives a rim a nice deep look?

Dear Luke (or anyone),

I'm interested in getting upgraded rims for my 86' 300E W124.
16 or 17X7.5 w/an offset ???(range: 35-41) w/c one gives the rim a deep look w/a 1 inch or so "lip"?

Still undecided on 16 or 17. Opinions would be appreciated. Cost of the tires, comfort, looks (in decending importance) being the deciding factor.

lip depth is a feature of wheel design not offset and on a W124 I would recommend a 17x7.5 wheel and a 215/45-17 tire size ... looks great
