Hello again,

I appreciate all the help so far. I'm still looking at local ads for used OE MB chrome 15 hole wheels. I have another question...what offset are the stock wheels off a 1990 300TE? They are 15" chrome. Width was not stated.

When I call these ads, I'd like to be able to ask what model benz the wheels came off of and know whether or not they will fit my 84 300SD w126 chassis. I'm looking for 15 hole chrome wheels 15x6.5 or 15x7 with an offset of 25mm. These are the ones on a 1991 420sel for example. What other MB models use this size wheel and offset? An answer for this would help tremendously.

Thanks, you guys are great!

Nolan

I hear ya Man, I'm looking to find out what models of benz 8 hole OE Wheels will work on my 92 300CE. I have gotten a little bit of assistance in the matter so far, but am yet to get my specific questions answered. Perhaps the tire guru Luke can shed some light on this one for us.

I don't mind buying new replica versions. Of course I'd love to save some money on getting OE ones with tires, but chances are I'd have to get new tires on them anyway if the wrong size tires come on the used wheels. so then the money wouldn't be worth it to me.

It seems as if my options are getting more and more limited, but the choices are both good routes. on the one hand I can have new never used wheels guaranteed to fit my car that look the same as factory and the price from tire rack is excellent.

On the other hand, If I could find OE 8 holes to fit the car, with the right size tires with decent tread, for a good price, then I'd probably save a little money over buying wheels and tires at the same time.

Though perhaps I will be able to get back some cash if I sell the wheels that are on the car now. I will have to wait and see though. its gonna take a little while to get the cash for the wheels and tires anyway, so I'm not in a rush to buy.

If all goes well, I might be able to get some nice AMG wheels instead. Might be time to go to vegas and try my luck hehehe.

DieselGuy,

All 126 chassis from 86 to 89 use 15x7et25
1990&1991 use 15X6.5et25. Models are: 300SE, SEL, 300SDL, 350SD, 350SDL, 420SEL, 560SEL and 560SEC. The 107 560SL cars also used those wheels from 1986 to 1989, 15X7et25.
Wheels from 124 cars, 300E, TE, etc will not work, offset I believe is 35mm. I used to have 15 hole replicas in my 79 300SD and they look exactly like the originals. Mine were made by Borbet but the ones TireRack carries are made by Mille Miglia, those also are identical to the OE. If I were you I would get the painted, not chrome replicas for $109.00ea, I am not a fan of chrome wheels on a Mercedes, on my Jag they look great but not on a Benz, because of the amount of brake dust generated by the car, the chrome wheels will start to peel and look terrible after just a few years. You could use dust shields but still quite a bit of dust goes through the vent holes. Good luck with your quest.

Thanks for the info. I at least have a clearer idea of what cars to look over when looking for wheels. I bought my car used 6 years ago and it already had 14" 15-hole replicas, chrome. My 300SD is in prestine condition, silver blue with chrome wheel well mouldings. Wheels other than chrome would simply make the car less classy that it is. Peeling on those replicas is non existant. I also have a friend with a 91 420sel with factory chromes that's in prestine condition. They get covered heavily with brake dust but always come off easily. Nothing gets baked on. The painted ones seem to be harder to clean. It comes down to personal taste. With all that chrome on the bumpers, grille, doors, ...it only comes natural to have chrome wheels...it all matches.

Thanks again,
Nolan

Nolan, there is a post further down that indicates the offset of the 1990 500SL is 22mm. This opens new possibilities by allowing 16in OEM wheels on the 116/126. Tire size I think should be 225/55-16. Just thought I'd throw that in...

Ashman,
I, too, am in the same dilemma. However, there are always people on ebay.com selling W124 rims w/ 35mm offset which would fit your 300CE (and my 300CE) just fine. It's all matter of 'style'. Usually one can find late model (97+?) E320 16"s for just around $300. Just not sure how good it'd look w/ the coupes...

hehe yup, I've seen them all over Ebay too, just not sure if I trust Ebay that much though..

I have actually decided to just wait and use the car for now on its current wheels. you can see what they look like on the car at the following link:

I am however definately getting tires just not sure if I want to buy 2 205/55/16's (needs new rear tires and I think the 205's look small on the car) or buy 4 in 225/50/16's.

I too have a 300ce and am in the process of replaceing the tires. I have aftermarket
8hole chrome wheels on the car. One of the wheels is now discoloured so I have been in a debate with myself to either rechrome the one wheel and buy 4 new tires or find a used set of chrome wheels all around with tires hopeing the tires will not be the 195s. Reading all the postings also answered my other debate I have had as to whether I should be 16" or stick with the 15". I just think with the standard oem tire size and the 15" wheels I just think they look smallish on the car. It just showed too much wheelwell in the back, no so much up front.
What do think of someones suggesting I go with the 215/60/16 tires, do you think that will fill up the well nicely?
