Upgrade wheels/tires on my 1994 E420

Hello Guys,
I have a 1994 E420 with stock wheels and tires. I would like to upgrade both. I am thinking I would like to go to 17". Any thoughts on this. I am partial to AMG monoblocks. Any and all comments welcome.
My questions are:
1. Is 17" to large for my E420
2. How will 17's effect the stopping and handling of my E420

Thanks,
Allan

No 17's are not to large. If you go to 18's you may have to roll the fenders, but 17's are a piece of cake.

Better tires are always good

18" is to large in my humble opinion. My goal is better handling and stopping. Anyone have a pic to share of what 17's look like on a 94' E-class. I'm curious!!

Are you going to lower your car? That may help also. In any case there are pics floating around of W124's with 17's. If Dr. AMG reads this maybe he will be so kind to post a pic of his old 17's. My wheels are way to dirty to post a pic of them.

What effect would lowering have on the car other than bottoming out more frequently....??

Lowering springs should be accompanied by firmer shocks with shorter rods, such as Bilstein Sports. Then you won't bottom out...

Hey Doc,
Beautiful cars you have there. The top photo are 17's and the lower are 18's right? Where did you get your 17 wheels? Are the AMG's or replicas? How did you lower your car and did the new shocks make your ride harsh?
Thanks,
Allan

I'm thinking of doing the same to my E420. However, these are my rims of choice!

http://www.bekkers.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=BI&Category_Code=morimsevo

I really like the machined finish of the original 15" rims and these polished Evos look pretty close! I'm hoping that 7.5x17 with 215/45/17s won't rub.

My other concern is ride quality. The E420's ride is really nice, firm but comfortable enough (not as smooth as say a new W211.. but...). I'm worried that the 17" rims might make it ride harsh!

E420 Wheels

Greetings-

I'm noodlin' on upgrading my 15" stock wheels to 16" and want to keep the stock look.

Do such wheels exist, stock looking but 16"?

Thanks,
