pro / con - of polishing wheels (AMG monoblock II)
has anyone gotten their AMG monoblock II polished? How do they look? What are the pros and cons of polishing wheels.
I love the look of the AMG monoblock II, but I don't like them in silver. I love the way they look in chrome, but I have chrome rims right now that are peeling. I've never seen AMG monoblock II (or anything that looks like them) in a diamond cut finish, so I though maybe I could get them polished. I've seem people polishing the lip and they were satisfied. I was wondering if anyone has done the whole rim. Thanks in advance. jrmd01@yahoo.com

I'm in the same boat
I bought a set of chrome Lorinser rims for my 126. They look great except for slight chrome peeling. Since my Benz isn't my daily driver, I've decided to have the chrome bead blasted off and I'm going to polish the rims myself. The Eastwood company sells a kit that will do four rims for $75. From the research that I've done, the job entails a bit of elbow grease but isn't all that difficult. Basicaly, you polish the rims using a hand drill /air drill, buffing pads and various abrasive compounds (coarse to ultra fine). Not sure whether or not to clear coat them afterwards.
good luck. |

That were done Four years ago. They still look good! Pro= If You Ever have to repair them you wont have to remove the Chrome plate No Peeling/No Rusting/No Leaking rims Con They dont have the (Bling bling) That CHROME does. Also Mercedes has a Service Information dated 4/1991 That states Chrome plating is NOT approved by Mercedes! As The Process WILL weaken the Rim! Also The TUV Does NOT approve it! Ref #MBNA 40/18 I Would Have a Shop Polish The Rims Its a Nasty Job! |
