Hey everyone, I currently have the stock wheels on a 1992 400SE. Upon going to the tire shop to get new tires, they said that two rims were bent. Of course, they wanted to sell me new wheels, but I wanted to see for myself. Upon watching them balance the bent wheel it become obvious that the wheel was indeed a little lopsided. Even visibly the wheels did not look perfectly circular. Two of my wheels were like this. They placed these wheels on the back and the good ones on the front. Another problem I am experiencing is shaking of the steering wheel at 40+ mph speeds gradually going away around 65-70 mph. One shop said my problem was not the wheels but the damper, another said it was both. What I would like to know is common problems usually associated with the steering wheels shaking back and forth... it is better described as it turning maybe 1 cm back and forth, the column itself does not shake. Additionally can these bent wheels be repaired? I have many more plans for this car, and buying new wheels would really put a kink in that.
Thank you all, I really look forward to reading your advice.
