95 E320 Wheel/tire Combo

Luke @ Tire Rack,

I have a stock 95 E320 with stock 15 inch wheels fitted with Yoko AVS db tires, 205/60/15 (I believe that is the upgrade size?). I would like to upgrade to 16 inch wheels and really like the AMG 203 5-Spoke wheels, but note that Tirerack does not stock the wheel in 16 inch.

As an alternate, you do stock a 16 inch in the Borbet Type "E".

Can you comment on the differences between Borbet and AMG so that I can decide if the Borbet's will be okay for my car. I want a quality wheel that will hold up, and I do like the looks of the thin spoke wheels. Though I would like to get AMG's (if they were available in 16 inch), I "perceive" that you pay a lot for the AMG label and that is less important to me than quality and wheel design.

For a tire choice, the Tire Rack site has as the best rated High Performance All Season tire, the Bridgestone Potenza RE950. Can you comment on the choice of that tire and the Borbet wheel combo for my car and offer any subjective opinion on differences between the upgrade and my stock wheels with Yoko's.

TIA

Well, I'm not Luke, but I can answer part of your question.
I run Borbet "E"'s ( 16x7.5" ) on my car ( with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires ), and can tell you, that Borbet makes a high quality wheel ( german ).
The look of the "E" is very close to an AMG 5-spoke wheel, with a polished & clear coated lip.
It would not surprise me, if Borbet may make the wheels for AMG, because they manufacture wheels for many OEM's.
You will not regret buying Borbet.

earossi, I just bought a sweet set of 16'' TUV approved, AMG look alike wheels from this place www.wheelexchange.com. Check them out, I know I'm pleased with them. I also bought the conti-extremes from the tire rack and am very impressed with them too.

I have pictures of these wheels on my car but they're too big to post here. If you want a few let me know what your e-mail address is.

Borbet makes a very good wheel and does supply alot of OE wheels to many different companies ..... you should have no concerns about quality ....

The RE590 is an excellent choice with good ride quality and really good steering response which is typically a difficult combo to achieve in 1 tire
