Tire size question

Hi,
Time to change tires on my 94 C220.
The OEM tire size is 195/65/15, the shop is offering me also
205/60/15. They said, for the same price, I should go with 205/60/15.
What's better ?
Also my MB book recommends tightening the bolts at 110 lb/ft.
The shop said they usually do it at 90-95, but can do it at 110.
Again what do I do ?
Thank you.

You'll probably like the 205's.
The torque spec is 110 Nm ( Newton meters ), which equates to 81 ft.'lbs.

My owner's manual says "110 ft.lb. (150 Nm)."

That doesn't seem right (110 ft-lb). I've always seen 110Nm/81 ft-lb for MB lug bolts, but maybe they've changed. I'd double check; it may be a misprint.

no reason NOT to go 205.

also probably more selection of performance rated tires in 205.

215/60/15

Why not go to 215/60/15? Based on the numbers from Tirerack, the 205/60/15 is just a bit shorter than the 195/65/15 and the 215/60/15 is just a bit taller, in terms of overall diameter. Tirerack also says that 6.5" rims are within the proper range for all of the tire sizes. I always read about others using 215s, 225s, and even larger tires when they increase their wheel size, so why not go for the widest possible tires on the dinky OEM 15" wheels?

any of these three sizes will work

195/65-15
205/60-15
215/60-15

the torque spec for your lug bolts should be 80-85 ft. lbs.

read the wheel tech thread at the top of the page

Question 215/60-15s on a Euro sport suspension model?

I live in Europe and my 88 300TD has the factory lowered suspension. Will 215/60s fit? I was planning to try 215/55 instead. With only 113 horses, I could use a little gearing advantage - 2.7% isn't much, but should help.

Oh yeah, I already have 8" wheels with a 35mm offset instead of the stock 27mm offset. That's why I worry about stuffing 215/60s inside my fenders.

Nobody there? Is this a dead thread?

It's been 6 days and nobody's answered. I just found this list recently - is it still alive?

In the absence of somebody else's experience, I decided to buy 205/60-15s for now.

Cheers (if anybody reads this!)

RenoHuskerDu - the reason no one has replied is that they are still doing calculations on the 8 inch wheels. Are you sure the car has 8 inch wheels? Did they come from a lawnmower? Just for the record, there is no reason to apologize for living in France - by all accounts the pastries there are superb.

Yes, I had to get out the cutting torch in order to trim my disks and calipers, so those wheels would fit. But on the bright side, my E is now the kewlest slammed ride in our little village. The sparks are impressive.

So are the women, or in my case my wife. The wine's also great, as is the food. And being right next to Deutchland, I can always have a full speed blast, legally, to blow out the carbon and cobwebs. A 300TD seems to max out at about 180 kph, btw.

About tires, I decided to go with Firestone TZ200s in 205/60V-15. Don't worry, Euro Firestones have nothing to do with Exploder US Firestones. :p Firestone is just Bridgestone's high-value product line over here. I ran Euro Firestone FZ40s on my BMW 750i a few years back, and the treadwear was excellent. I shredded 2 sets of Yokohama A008R in the back while the FZ40s still had a lot of tread left.
