Winter tires C230
Winter is coming and I am in a quandry as to what to do with my new (May) C230 tires. The car has the sport tires (Michelin Pilot 225/17 XGT H4) and wheels (17"). This is the first rear wheel drive car that I have owned in the winter in many years. My questions:
1. How will the Michelins perform in the upcoming bad weather? 2. Are there good alternative tires for these wheels that will do well in the winter? 3. Is it better to get a set of wheels and tires rather than constantly switching the tires on the factory rims. The tires have about 15,000 miles on them and seem to have plenty of tread. Winters in Wisconsin have not been too bad for the last couple of years (frozen tundra rumors aside) and that probably means that we are in for a bad one. Generally the roads are either dry or buried and I need a tire that will perform well in either. Suggestions.......

Check out the Nokian WR. The WR is an all weather tire and is the only 4 season tire to be snow certified. I plan to buy a set before the snow falls. Search on Nokian on this forum and you'll see how people love these tires! Also check out www.nokian.com.

you will be much better off with a set of wheels for the winter tires and a differetn set of wheels for your summer tires .... many people in your situation just get winter tires for their OE wheels and then get a set of aftermarket ( better looking ) wheels for the summer ......
check out the Winter Tire Thread at the top of the page for some ideas
