18" on W124 one more time

Luke or Anyone else with knowledge,

I'm thinking of putting on my friends 18" by 8.5 Brabus wheels off a new S. I saw the post about 8.5 rims rubbing but my Q is what is the diffrence between 18x8 to 18x8.5 with a 225/40/18 tire size?

Luke, actually tirerack sells and sugests 18x8.5 size for a w124-recommended tire size-225/40/18. I dont see how an 8.5 rim with the same width 225 tire would rub???

So the very important question.....will they fit or will they rub?

BTW the offset is 35mm........

18X8.5 is right at the limit of the W124 in terms of wheels size. The offset will have to be next to perfect. Personally I don't think 35mm would do it. You will rub.

I've done a few of these....

and yes, it will most likely rub. Usually in the front it will hit at the 11/2 oclock positions, on the trim panels. Often the front is more problematic than the rear. If you're bold with the tools, or are not running the car really low, it is livable, depending on the brand of tire. But it will interfere. Hope this helps.
