We are trying to survey Mercedesshop guests and members who have purchased from Tirerack. In an effort to assess the effectiveness of Tirerack as an advertiser here on Mercedesshop we would like to know if anyone has purchased anything from Tirerack to date. Mercedesshop's existence is dependent on advertisers like Tirerack. We would appreciate any type of feedback even if just a "yes" answer. Any further information is welcome but very optional. Thanks for supporting the site. Without sponsors like Tirerack we would not be able to provide the free service you have become accustomed to.

Thanks for any feedback you can provide...Lee

I have purchased 5 sets of tires and 1 set of wheels over the last 5 years or so. I usually have the tires drop shipped to a place that that mounts the tires using tape (adhesive) wheel weights. My overall experience has been good.

With the tire/wheel order, one tire leaked air badly and the mechanic said that the cause was due to a casting flaw in the wheel, not the tire. When I called the Tire Rack with this, they thought it was unusual, but shipped another wheel ASAP, and did a prepaid shipping ticket for picking up the bad wheel.

I have only two complaints with them. 1. Depending on who takes your order, they can be a little curt with you. I believe this is because the phone salesmen want to cover as many potential buyers as possible. 2. When I ordered the wheels (on a closeout), they needed a centering ring in order to fit on the car. When these winter tires/wheels were taken off the following spring, the tire shop I went to (and don't go to anymore) broke off a couple of these plastic centering rings. I called Tirerack for replacements and they first told me that they were on backorder. Eventually they told me that I would have to contact the wheel manufacturer, Ronal, for th e parts. Ronal told me that they only deal with the dealer directly and didn't make the part anymore. (They don't make a cap for a '76 Mercedes 450SLC that I own either!) Ever since, I've had to Superglue the broken plastic rings together. This works, but is pain in the you-know-what.

I believe Tirerack currently doesn't sell wheels that need centering rings anymore. Certainly I would only recommend buying wheels with the proper sized hub and offset.

The Tirerack's prices can't be beat and their web site does offer a wealth of information. They do have a tendency to push Bridgestone Blizzak winter tires, even though some other tires may do as good or better a job. (http://autopedia.com/bbs/tires//index.html is a good BBS that you can get tire information from).

You've got a great site Lee, keep up the good work!

Lee,

I just purchased a set of tires this week. I ordered them on Monday and they were on my doorstep Wednesday morning. I think their site offers a wealth of information about tires. My salesman was very knowledgeable and helpful. He made suggestions but did not try to push any particular brand which is good because the final decision is left up to the buyer. I highly recommend them for tire purchases. Prices can not be beat.

You have a great site ... keep it up.

I have bought a couple sets of tires and wheels from the Rack. The first set was for my 300E and the wheels were made by RW. The RW wheels were impossible to belanced because they did not have a continous hub centric support. Since I could not return the tires/wheels to the Rack for belance, I ended up spending alot of extra money trying to the fix problem locally.

The second set of tires and wheels were for winter driving for my 500SEL and they were fine. The wheels were Borbet replica and tires were Blizaks.

I now buy all my tires and wheels locally at Discount Tires mainly because if I problem comes up, I can get it fixed without extra expense. You can get the same magazine prices at your locally stores per Discount Tire VP I spoke with.

I've bought 2 sets thru the Rack in the past; they were very professional and helpful, and the price was untouchable.

I've purchased 5 sets of tires in the past 7 years from them, (1 a set of snows mounted on factory steel wheels for my wife's car)and have no complaints. I started dealing with them after the sales people at Eurotire in NJ stopped?? answering the toll free line. I dealt with Eurotire for @10 years prior and never had a problem with them either

Lee,

I purchased two sets of tires from them about a month ago. I drove to the South Bend warehouse, 75 miles from where I live. I was really impressed to find a very large professional looking building that didn't resemble your ordinary tire place. I had them mount a set of CH95 Continentals on my 95 C220. It only took a half an hour. I know there was some negative feedback on these tires comparing them with the Michelin MXV4's, but on this particular car I think they do a good job. For $55 a tire vs. $107, they can't be beat. I also took with me a set of Yokohamas AVS S4's for my mothers 86 Corvette. I would highly recommend Tirerack. They have the best prices in the country.

Have been avery satisfied customer for many years, Bought at least 12 sets for myself and 4 sets for relatives and recommend 6 sets for coworkers. Only problem to date was a tire size that was in the wrong bin at the warehouse that cause them to ship me 2 (4ea) sets wrong size everything else right. which they finally got right the third day.

For which I received a nice Borbet shirt for my troulbles.

I talked with the distribution manager and he assured me that it would be right the third time and it was. Not once did they act like it was anything other than their fault.

I'm getting ready to buy 4 tires for my 400E within the next week or so.

I've looked at other places but always come back. Besides I like ordering the tires before noon and having them the next day.
Best reason though has to be while I can get for same price as local store, I don't give that tax money to Uncle Sham.

Satisfied Customer,

I have purchased about 5 sets of tires from Tirerack and have been extremely satisfied with their service. 4 of the sets were Michelin Energy MXV4s and the other one was a set of Pirelli P4000 Super Touring, all great tires. Usually when there's a Notre Dame game at South Bend, I'll make a trip to Tirerack to peruze the latest stuff out (AFTER the game that is).

First let me say...Thank you all very much for your feedback.

My experiences with Tirerack have been basically the same. Having ordered 4-5 sets of tires and one set of wheels/tires over the years I've always been most impressed with their product, service, and results. The Tirerack team was most helpful in getting a set of 235/50/16 Michelin Pilots for the 500E. In my experience, shipping for the set of 4 tires is cheaper than the tax on one tire. Not to mention that the difference in OTC prices and Tirerack prices are HUGE. One of the places I had a tire mounted (after a flat) asked me how much I payed for it. When I told him he said his cost for that tire from his supplier was more than what I paid at Tirerack.

Nobody said anything about mounting, so I'll relate my experience. About a year ago I bought a set for the 300E from Tirerack, but had a terrible time finding a place to mount them. Of course, none of the big tire shops would touch them. I asked Tirerack for referrals, and they gave me a couple of mom & pop shops that didn't seem very interested in my business. I finally got them mounted at (TaDa!) the local MB dealer. They took me right in with no questions and did the job for LESS money than any tire shop wanted. I'll never buy tires any other way.

P.S. Can't wait to get rid of the Continentals on the new 300. They suck!

I never thought of the MB dealer as an option for mounting tires.
Definitely going to investigate this tomorrow.

Thank you.

whunter, I have been buying tires from Tire Rack and having them installed on loose wheels at our local MB dealer for years. The dealer techs do a first class job road force balancing the wheels using genuine 2-piece MB balance weights, not the cheap 1-piece lead weights the tire stores use.
