3.5mm~5mm winter or new all-season: which is better in winter?
3.5mm~ 5mm ( 4.4/32" ~ 6.2/32") (the tread depth varies location by location on the tire) 195/65 15 91Q Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50
or a new all-season tire (Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus, Continental ContiTouringContact CH95, Bridgestone Turanza LS-H, etc.). Which one is better in winter? I am in MA, USA. |

No Grand Touring Tires In Winter
None of the "Grand Touring" tires will be good in the snow, but a bald worn out Blizzak may not be too good either. I think 5mm is about half of the tread on the Blizzak and I think around 2mm may be when the tire is actually ready to be replaced. Maybe you have one more winter on those snows. I would not count on the Grand Touring tires unless you feel pretty sure we are going to have a mild winter with almost no snow in the Northeast.
