I have a 1989 300e and would like to replace a set of Lorinser 16" wheels/BFG TA 205/50s with a set of 16" wheels from a late model 500 or 600 series to improve the ride quality. I also anticipate relacing the tires (regardless of wheel selection) with a set of 215-225/60 profile tires (probably Michelin or BFG).
Will the offset be compatible from all of the other OEM rims? I trust the bolt pattern is the same, is that correct?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

If you are trying to improve ride quality then switching from one 16" wheel to another will not help you much. If you switch from a 16" wheel to a 15" wheel that should improve ride quality significantly. You could getting rid of the BFG tires. They are sure not known for their ride quality. The Michelin MXV4 is probably your best riding option. The Pilot XGT H4 or XGT V4 should also ride pretty well and not disapoint in the handling department. Go click on the Tirerack banner, imput the sizes that fit your RR in 15" or 16", and use their "size search" function. You can always call them as well and talk with their staff. BTW, if memory serves, the sizes that should fit a 300E are as follows:
195/65/15 OEM
205/60/15 OEM Sportline
215/60/15 A plus 0 fittment for OEM rims
215/50/16 a bit short, but acceptable for 16" fittment
225/50/16 your best handling fittment option.

Let us know how it turns out...Lee

Lee,
Thanks for the immediate response!!
Regarding the Lorinser wheels, my concern is with offset and width, rather than the diameter. My 205/50s stretch to the rim so I am concerned they are really too wide for the tires. I think perhaps the Lorinsers are 8 or more inches wide.
Your advice on the Michelins is well taken. I have had extremely positive results on numerous ocassions with them in the past. Given your statement, I will buy Michelin tires this go-round. I thought tire quality may have equalized over the years.
My primary concern is: will MBZ wheels interchange if they fit in the wheel well? I would like put factory wheels back on my Benz and have access to new returns for custom wheels.
Thanks again Lee for you prompt response! jeff
