I currently own a 1999 E300 turbodiesel that I want to upgrade suspension, then wheels and tires to essentially the same as an E55 AMG. I am wondering if I can use the factory springs and shocks from an E55 AMG? I believe that the weights of the two cars are nearly identical (due primarily to the heavier weight of the cast iron block of the diesel engine) vs the aluminum block of the E55 (and E320 for that matter.)
-Will this swap work, and have proper ride height- (ie- about the same ride height as an E55?)
Also, after the suspension is lowered, I intend to install AMG Monoblock II- (the same as an E55) but do not want to roll fender lips or otherwise alter bodywork. I have been told that (with my current stock suspension) 8 x 18's all around with 235-40ZR18 tires will fit, -OR- 8 x 18 with 235-40-18 up front and with 9 X 18 and 265-35-18 tires in the rear will fit.
-Will these wheel packages fit before, AND after the suspention modifications??
-If not, what is the most aggressive wheel setup I can use (with the monoblock II's) and avoid body alterations.
Many thanks!
