Painting Wheels on a "140"!
Hi Guys,
My 95 S500C wheels that have the factory cleared alloy look are badly scratched.Looks like the clear coat has fine scratches. Is it possible to sand and prime then paint these? Thanks. Rafiqi. Last edited by rafiqi; 01-24-2004 at 03:58 PM. |

Sure...
Sure, you can sand and paint your wheels. Your car has the "8 hole" alloy, right? After a few years, they start to look pretty shabby... but, a shame to paint a nice set of polished wheels.
I'm in the process of polishing mine.... pretty tedious, but have done two so far... and the results are worth it (IMHO). Good winter project. Another option is to replace them with other wheels... late model W220 wheels fit right on and look good (these are painted from the factory)... or, you can buy a set of W140 wheels that are in nicer shape (from a later W140?) Curious to know if your factory wheels are "staggered" with 34mm offset on the back and 51mm on the front... mine is. Here's a small pix that shows a W220 wheel on a W140 Coupe.

Yep! They are!
Hi Ken,
Yes mine are staggered. Can not afford Amg's right now. How did you overcome the stagger problem using the latter wheels? I also enjoyed your comments on the Kumho's. I have used them on many cars. They are awsome for $,and for that matter at any price. Smooth and quiet. Regards, Rafiqi. Last edited by rafiqi; 01-25-2004 at 11:27 AM. |

Have the wheels Media blasted and then polish the only problem is that the wheels will dull in time unless you clearcoat.
