SDL riding great....
Now that I purchased new tires. 4 Dayton HR -215 - 60-15
Don't know what the general opinion of Dayton tires is but the Michelins and Goodyears were pricey, plus I have had good results with them before. I had the car up to 90 for about 10 minutes straight with no shakes rattles, etc.... I love it even more than before. It got to 90 and held it effortlessly. I would have gone a bit faster but Krome avenue down here is one lane each way and filled with truckers who are in a hurry. Plus it's dark as hell. Anyway, thought I'd share, all my vibrations are gone.

Congratulations on eliminating the vibrations.
I can't afford the Michelins either; I have used Cooper tires for the last 100K. They have held up great, usually get about 65-70K on them before they come off. I don't like to fix flats on the side of the road and haven't had to since I have had the car. I don't drive 90 but sometimes drive 75 or so on the turnpike. My tires track very well at speed, I have no complaints.

215 - 60-15
did you mean 215-70-15? if truly a 60 series, present rolling radius compared to factory fit tire is substancially smaller.

Anyone try Yokohama's(sp?) on an W126 I've heard good things about them and there prices are resonable.

I haven't tried the Yokohama's on a w126, but I have them on both of my current cars. I've put a few thousand miles on both, and I love them. Much more control, much less vibration. No problems at all. I drive either of them on a 64 mile commute, each day, 83-4 MPH. Got them at the Tire Rack, tires came quickly and with no hassle.

I've been putting Firestone Affinity LH-30s on everything. I don't drive all that fast (bad reaction times!) and they aren't anywhere near as pricey as Michelins.
Drive very nicely, good traction in snow and ice, seem to wear well, and ride very smoothly. Peter

The Bridgestone Eagers the 300SE (sold) came with were terrible. I didn't think a tire could be so noisy. By the worst luck the minivan we had back then also came with Bridgestone Eagers. The 300SE woke up when I found a good used set of 225/60-15 MXV4+ tires... which are now on the SDL.
I got a new set of Dunlop 2000 Sport (or something like that) tires for the 300SE in the original 205/65-15 size. ~$43 each from tirerack.com a couple of years ago. Couldn't tell the difference between the Dunlops and the Michelins. The 83 300SD (sold) came with Arizonian tires up front and P4000 or P5000 tires in back in the original 205/70-14 size. No complaints. Sixto 95 S420 87 300SDL |

I'm gonna be putting on 4 new tires soon. I have been leaning towards the yokahamas from tirerack at around 200 bucks. Costco has $60 off of 4 michelin's right now so I need to see what they are selling them for. I have dunlop's on the 300D now that came with the car and not sure how old they are, but I'm getting a nasty vibration at around 70 mph. Might look at coopers now also. Keep suggestions coming.

My manual calls for 205/65 R15
The ones I installed are P215 60 15. The rolling radius appears to be very wide as opposed to the bf goodrich that were on there before and they don't look flimsy, in fact they appear to be rather wide in appearance. I paid $336.11 out the door. Bridgestone Eagers were my next bet in that price range. Glad I didn't get em. The Michelins were closer to 500.00 as were the Goodyear. Thanks for listening.

I needed tires but I wanted to replace the 14" alloy's (move to 15" or 16") and could not afford both (at this time) while pumping in the money to fix it up....so I purchased 2 pairs of take off (205/75/14) for a whopping total of $80.00 including mounting and balancing.

I have Bridgestone Potenza RE930i tires on the 240D. They came from Costco, and they have a 195/70/14 size that fits really well. They are a fabulous handling tire as they are H rated (continous up to 130 mph). My treadlife isn't so great, but I also drive pretty aggressively.
Anyway, I think they were about $330 out the door, and Costco has really excellent service plans on the tires.
