Wheels for 79 300 cd

Hi I am looking for a summer set of rims for my 79 300 cd I have seen some on Ebay and was wondering if they might fit. Maybe you could give me some advise. The first set I was looking at are 14 inch rims from a 190 series 84 - 98. The second set I found were 14 inch rims from a 1985 380, they look very similar to the rims on the car now. Do you know if either of these would fit my car?

I do not know from experience if the 14 inch wheels from a 380 will work, but something tells me they will. I do know that wheels froma 190 will not fit, there will be interference because the offset is wrong. If you can, find 15 X 6.5 inch wheels from a 420SEL, 560SEL/SEC etc. W126 chassis. I believe the offset is ET23 (not positive).
Flat Face chrome wheels p/n
126 400 4102 will fit your car.
These will give better steering response and handling will be improved as a result.
Use 205-65-15 tires and the speedometer will scarcely be affected.

79 300 cd

I think that the 15 inch tires would make the car look nice I just didn't think they would fit. I have a set of chrome wheels for my 350 sdl that would fit my 300, or at least I could try them on the car to make sure they would fit before buying another set of rims. Thanks for the advice! I love the Mercedes shop forum.

Chris P, why don't you think they will fit? I have run 15 inch tires/wheels on my two 300TD for years now with never any interference or otherwise fit problems. I would never go back to 14 inch tires (unless I sell a car)
I need all the extra handling capability I can get. The W123 is not a stellar car when it comes to handling.
Granted, these are not sports cars, but random things occur that demand quick response to avoid accidents, dodge pot holes and so on. The 15 inch tires when purchased to keep nearly the same outside diameter as 14 in tires on 14 in wheels, have thicker sidewalls. You can see this if you examine in side-by-side comparison.
As a tire and frame shop owner told me once when I had an alignment done, "Mercedes should have put 15 inch wheels and tires on these cars in the first place."
Finding a set of 15 in. wheels with good chrome can be a problem though. I can't help you there, but if you find some of the wheels with the p/n I listed previously, please send me a PM telling me where I can get them and how many $ they are asking, thanks!
Welcome to the Shopforum! if you need a source for low cost tires, let me know!

rims

I like to browse Ebay so I might find what you want. I will put 15 inch rims and tires on the 300cd. It is a sporty looking car but quite slow. I wanted a cute car for my daughter to drive, unfortunatly it has been in the shop since I bought it. I am replacing the transmission and have the heater fixed as the vac. lines are not connected properly.

I saw an 85 300d on ebay and it had wheels from a 98 e320 on it.

If they are 15 inch wheels, I believe they will fit allright, provided the offset is similar to the stock wheels.
The 85 chassis is identical to yours in terms of wheel specificatins, clearance etc. They should be an offset of ET 23 or 24 I think.
16 inch wheels will rub. You should be careful before buying any wheels that the seller has no info on regarding offset.
Ask a MB dealer if they can provide offset info, using the OEM wheel part number that is located on the reverse side of every wheel. If the seller can provide that you have something to check out. If not, walk away from the deal!
