Best tire size for '95 E420 on 17's

I just bought a used set of AMG Monobloc replicas with 17*7,5 rims, offsett 35. The tire size is 225/45/17. The tires are very noisy and the car occasionally tends to follow the wheel paths where the roads are bad. In addition to that the tires rub. These tires are not good (Fulda Carat Extremo). Fulda is a German subsidiary of Goodyear.

Now this looks very good but obviously this setup is not working very well. I am going to roll the fenders and buy new tires.

My stock setup is 215/55/16 and offsett 46, and 7 inch wide. I am afraid that the 215/45/17 are too small and will look odd (-2.8% smaller than stock). 205/50/17 is more close to the stock height (-0.8% from stock).
Then there could be the possibility of going to 215/50/17 which is 0.6% higher diameter than stock if the fenders would be rolled.

I am more interested in comfort than performance and was thinking about the Kumho KH11 tire. Now, if someone could advice me of the most comfortable setup that should work it would be of great help.

Thanks in advance.

Luke,

215/50/17s?

Aren't those quite a bit taller than standard W124 tires? Then again the E420's in Europe did come with 215/55/16 tires from factory?

I currently have 215/45/17s on my 17x7.5 ET37 wheels and the ride is quite a bit harder than it used to be.

When these Pilot Sports wear out I'm hoping to replace them with 215/50/17 Grand Touring tires instead of Max Performance summer tires...

*the Turanza LS-V comes to mind... 215/50/VR17*

Thanks!
