Spacer Questions?

I have a set of 225/55 16in wheels that were originally on a 1992 300SL. I want to put them on my 1987 300SDL. I tried to bolt them on and the bolt pattern and outside diam are the same. But they are real close to the ball joint and sway bar on the front, so I guess I need spacers. How do I go about figureing out what size I need? I went to H&R's website and I think they will have what I need but am not sure what size I need. Also about what do they cost?

I believe the thinnest spacer is 5 mm ( less than 1/4 " ).
Is there enough clearance to move the wheel out by 5 mm?
