8 hole rims don't fit on my SDL?

I just got a set of 8 hole rims for my car, there really nice 16in with 225/55 tires on them. The diamiter's are the same as my stock tires and they bolt right on. But there too wide, the fronts have less than an 1/8in clearance around the tie rods, and the backs come very close to rubbing the wheel well. It seems these rims are 8in wide and not 7.5. So I guess I need spacers, I'm thinking 12-15mm. But here is my question, can I get longer lug bolts that would go threw the spacers? I don't want to go to big on the spacers because the wheels will stick out and look stupid.
H&R has 40mm spacers that will use my stock lugs but I think they will stick out to much. Help! I need to get these rims on next week, the tires on my car now are shot.

I was informed by the tire rack that they would not install wheels and tires onto car that required or used wheel spacers.

Having been down that road, I can say that you need to consider using spacers carefully, I don't know if longer bolts are available either. The thing might be that they work OK, but a tire installer would forget a spacer or something, you know if your wife or friend drove the car, had a flat and took it to Dumass Gas Station for fixing a flat... YMMV

Always check the offset too, there's nothing like the right wheel offset for a car to ensure that handling is not compromised.

40mm spacers you speak of are probably hub centric and they are about $300 for all four.
When you put them on the front did you let the car down? When I put my wheels on the tires rubbed the shocks until I let the car down off the jack. What is the offset on the wheels you bought?

Here are some numbers off the back of the rims:
8Jx16H2
2.149
F28
124 401 14 02
ET34

I bolted the wheel on and than sat the car down on it, I looked at clearence after the car was down. I'm not to worried about the spacers they seem to be made pretty well, and I'm not raceing. I don't mind spending $300, new rims will cost me $700 more so I'd really like to make these work. I think I will try giving H&R a call today.

Make sure you use hub centric spacers. MB lug bolts are not designed to support the weight of the car, and they'll break with standard spacers.

Why not just get the right rims for the car? Ebay whatchagot and get the correct rims. I just am not willing to trust 2 tons of automobile to a set of $300 spacers. I've been in a car where the lugs failed at highway speeds. It wasn't my car, the result wasn't pleasant, and I sure wouldn't do anything that invited a repeat performance of the event. RT

I have a set of spacers that came with my set of rims. I am selling them with a set of 7 spoke (8 hole) rims. Are you talking about the rims from a 2000 s-class? ill take some pics this weekend.

My rims came off a 1992 SL320. The problem is I thought they were 7.5in wide like the ones Tirerack.com sells. But they turned out to be 8in wide. I think a set from tirerack is 4 rims @$150 each plus 4 Mich Pilots @$125 each. So $1100-$1200 for a new set with a set of tires that would be more suited to my kind of driving. Or the set I have now for $700 + $300 for spacers. So $1000 for a set of rims that sticks out with 40mm spacers and are not as safe as rims without them. Plus they have Conti performance tires that will wear fast. So an extra $100-$200 for a perfect set of new rims and tires, that fit right, and have a better tire for me. I think I'll just order a new set from Tirerack on monday. How good are there 8 hole rims? There not MB but the look good in the pics.

Anyone want to buy mine for $700? I cleaned them up real nice.

I just sold the rims that I had. I got on E-bay and scored some new ones for $200!!!!!! $300 for spacers is kind of ridiculous.
The rims in the picture are 37mm offset and they fit my 300SD.

I just priced out a set on TireRack

4 16x7.5 AT Italia Type 8 Silver Painted @ $129.00

4 225/55WR16 Kumho ECSTA KH11 Blackwall @ $83.00

Mounted, balanced and delivered: $936.00

UPS ground, I could have them in three days. This sounds pretty good what say you guys? The Kumho tires seem to get better reviews than the Mich, I'm not worried about snow traction. I'm going to put a set of snow tires on my old rims.

I think it sounds great, but may be a bit premature for a car with possible engine problems. Are you still getting metal shavings in the oil filter?

$300 for the hubcentric spacers is about right, when you actually look at them, and understand they are more than a hunk of metal with holes. The correct spacers are essential if you must use spacers. I very strongly recommend NOT using spacers and getting the correct offset wheel if at all possible. Last time I checked there was only one manufacturer in the USA that made the correct spacers. He had one of the FAQ's address the "high" price, too.

Lesson to be learned here is to ALWAYS measure clearance inside & out with the stock wheels, then note the dimensions & offset, and do the math to figure out if the new wheels you intend to buy will fit. I know exactly what will and will not fit on my W124 chassis, unfortunately I don't know squat about the 126...

I'll know in 400 miles when I test the oil. I don't think its serious, they weren't really shavings just small flakes. I'm not even sure they are metal now. I think the po had the oil changed at the dealer where they sucked it from the dipstick. I didn't do a really good change the first time around, so there was some accumulation (sp?) of crap. I don't think there is a problem the engine runs to good and the oil pressure is great.

Also the tires on there now are really shot and getting to the point where there dangerous. I really don't feel safe driving with them in the rain, and the highway is out of the question. My Toyota's going Sunday so I don't have the luxury of a second car anymore. I need to do something soon, before I get in trouble.
