Darn, made a mistake.
Sorry, general foul up in data.
My experience with 1977 MB sedans is that they are; if perfect, off +/- 2.8 MPH. The average beater can be off +/- 3.8 MPH or more. The odometer if perfect, can off +/- 0.025 Mile. On an old beater; I have seen off +/- 1.3 Mile or more. I have some doubt of 100K figure, though it is possible. I have worked Durability test fleet in the OEM's, and the best I have witnessed is 80 - 95K miles on 40k rated tires. The maintenance was extreme and fully documented. Tire pressure check three times every 24 hours. Tread profile gauged three times every 24 hours. Brake inspection every five days. Tire balance every five days. Wheel alignment measurements taken every fourteen days. Average fleet miles = 100K miles in 6.8 months. I do not doubt you, just the instruments on the car. Have a great day. whunter |

The instruments of the car might possibly be off 5% or so. However, the data that I provided was the data from the odometer. If the vehicle has larger tires, it travels FURTHER than the odometer indicates.
So, in reality, the Oldsmobile traveled greater than 100K on those Michelins. And, in reality, the two M/B have traveled greater than 75K (at the present time) on another set of Michelins. I would not have believed it myself, however, the instruments do not lie, and, I must attribute this excellent tire wear to decreased tire loading created by the larger tires. |
