If I go to a larger size tire on my 84 300SD will it affect the speedo reading?

Of course Bill, but by how much is a guess. The best way to find out is to record speedo and RPM readings at certain speeds with your current setup, change the tires and then do the same readings and calculate the differences. Or...you could get a friendly state trooper to saturate you with microwave or infrared energy before and after...

It will probably be hard to figure out exactly how much your readings will change. If you are going to a larger tire your odometer and speedometer will show fewer miles and mph than you are actually doing. Best bet may be to measure the circumference of your current tires and the new tires. If the new tires are 105% the size of your current tires every 1000 miles on your odometer will be 1050 in reality and 60mph on your spedometer will be 63mph.

What 420 SEL said makes a lot of sense.

I believe the specifications for the 126 body is to have a tire that is 205/65/R15, but I go with 215/65/R15 for both of my cars.

Altough it is not recommended, it looks a heck of a lot better. The Benzs look mean as if were to tear up the road - the standard size looks more feminine (in my opinion). It handles a smigin more like a cruiser than a corvette, but who cares I don't drive em like a Corvette anyway.
