1999 S420 / Rim & Tire suggestions?
Just purchased a 1999 S420. My question to you fine folks:
Have a set of 16 inch chrome Lorinser rims that need re-chroming. The front face of the rims are all chrome. Can get re-chromed for $135.00 a tire (excludes shipping).... Or, I can get a set of 17 inch chrome S class rims on ebay for $699.00. What would your do? Are Lorinser rims good? What is the the smooth and quiet tire combo that would be suggested? Thanks, Tully Lee |

Lorinser rims are considered "premium" wheels - they run $1000+ each when new.
I have a set of 18" on my 92 500sel, and they look great. They also run down the road really nice - I have a set of Conti CH95s 235 front, 255 rear. The important thing (which you haven't mentioned yet) is OFFSET - mine were 25mm when I got them, and I had them cut to 30 on the front and 40 in the rear, so they fill the wheel wells perfectly and miss hitting anything. -David |
