The cable passes thru the dash to the top of the valve cover. If your car has cruise control, you will see two cables attached to the metal pivot for the linkage just below the SHUT OFF lever. The cable is held in place by a ball at its end passing thru a nylon collar on the pivot plate. Usually the nylon collar falls off over the years so when the knob is turned and the cable shortens to pull back on the linkage the cable passes thru the hole rather than pulling on the linkage. I got a collar off another wrecked MB from the cruise cable. I pressed it out, split one side with wire cutters, slipped it over my throttle cable and glued it to the pivot with RTV black silicone! that was 8 years ago. Still works great!
