The problem I was having was that the engine would fire but then die within a couple of seconds.

I have since solved the problem as I had installed the wrong intake manifold gasket out of the Head Gasket Kit I bought.

The wrong gasket did not correctly cover the channels that are in the Intake manifold.

The reason I used the wrong gasket was that I assumed the new gasket was the grey cardboard looking one - but the correct one in the kit was a metal gasket, obviously upgraded from the original.
