It's not the same at all, and you would immediately see this if you drove a gasser with a gauge.
Accelerating with a constant part-throttle on a gasser will start with a very high pressure in the manifold, and the pressure will lower as you increase engine RPM. Without moving the throttle at all. Manifold pressure tells you far more than just pedal position on a gasser.
However, on the diesel, you will be simply reading pedal position and nothing else. I think I know how far I've pushed the pedal.
