That's a totally accurate guess. Maybe some of the persons with the aluminium 5-speeds (717.xxx) can chime in and tell us how similar are the transmission.

The thing here is that Gurkha mentioned that his provider only makes the iron transmissions, not the aluminium ones. Not sure if the internals are the same...
