This thread is dangerous. The whole time I was trying to explain the problem, I kept coming across innuendos

Anyway, I still cannot get it in, although with the grommet connected to the holder, it sits atop the valve cover pretty tightly. I'm thinking that I'll get the engine warmed up and maybe then the plastic will be a little bit softer.
