Thank you and introduction

Hello.

It is time to say what I've been thinking for two years now. This is a fantastic forum and the help I have received here is very much appreciated. There seem to be decent and very knowledgeable folks here. Some quick background: I bought my '83 240D, automatic, just over two years ago, finding this forum soon after. It was my first MB diesel. The odometer was broken but I think the mileage stated is pretty close, given info provided by previous owner and overall condition of the car. The odometer was one of my first repairs, simply so I could maintain it as needed. With the help of this forum I was able to troubleshoot and fix many things, most of which were normal "wear items" or routine maintenance. I just bought an '87 300TD and am looking forward to woking on this car, as well. Again, through research on this forum, I was able to go look at the car and check all the common weak points and make at least a somewhat "educated" decision. It's basically a garaged, one owner car (adult son received car after mother passed way 2 years ago). Odometer broke at 122k about 2 years ago, and PO figured he might put on 8,000 per year. So, along with basic fluid and filter changes, one of my first repairs on this car will be the odometer, too. That and the belt tensioner or at least the pivot bearing on the belt tensioner. Seems I should replace the original vacuum pump while I'm there. I haven't registered it yet so I'm not even tempted to go for a "little" ride. It's been killing me all week just looking at it parked in the garage...Anyway, I really just wanted to say thank you. I hope to be able to offer some help as I continue to receive the help you all provide.
