The "Spring Strut" rubber bushings came in that I odered from South Atlanta Mercedes. So I decided to inatall them this weekend.
When I removed the old top rubber it looked almost new and was not any shorter that the new part. When I got the bottom rubber out it was a lot different than the new one.
Anyway, it was a pretty easy job. and this was definately what was causing the thump sound. I also found a 1/4 drive Snap-On ratchet in the back seat back rest. sweet.
The only bad part is when I went to do the other side, the darn top nut on the shock would not break free. The top of the stem with the "flats" was already gnarled and I could not get the vice grips to hold tight enough. So I decided to stop before I broke something. I gave it one last shot of PB Blaster and put everything back together.
I will get some metric nuts and "jam" them, may get a "Strap Wrench" to hold the body via the lower hole or use a Nut Splitter. I do not want to destroy the shock in the proccess. Not until I have new ones on the shelf anyway.
