Two observations: if you've tried to get that ring on, and failed, chances are you've warped it. Once that happens, I really don't think it's ever going back on. BTDT.

I had the same dilemma as you, hard to find the Bendix. I'm in Canada and its even worse here.

However, when shopping I remember that I found some places online, Stateside, that would sell the rebuilt ATEs in pairs for less than one reman Bendix. (However for me shipping calipers to Canada was too expensive.)

In the end I stumbled on an old-stock Bendix on a shelf here. Had I not had that luck, I would have changed both sides out for ATE and been done with it.
