Here's an other twist. In our neck of the woods,
for all passenger cars, independent of the value or weight, flat rate: $255.00 per year (US$165.00) BUT it includes the government run public liability insurance with our no-fault insurance. The flat rate can go up very rapidely depending on your driver's record. A few tickets (based on a point system) and the cost can go up to $600.00 pretty easily.
As a result, the insurance cost are fairly low: $CAN565. (or $US365.) per year in my case.
premium gasoline price is $CAN0.87 per liter or $US 2.14 per US gal.
