Auburn in September
Today my brother and I went up to the big Auburn auction....well really it was the smallest one I have seen there in 30 years I bet. Last day is the smallest I think but the big field they use for parking which used to hold 30 double rows of parking today had 2.5 at most.
But there was plenty of action. Best two deals of the day were imho a three year old Mustang cobra jet for $32,000 with 182 miles on it, and a lovely 47 caddy sedan for 13K.
I went to look at the 37 Studebaker coupe express sell. It was a ten or fifteen year old restoration with no flaws that I observed in a medium grey metallic with a side mount. I told my brother that I betted the owner had a $70,000 reserve on it. When the bidding stalled at $56,000 the owner lifted the reserve (they said it was 70K) and it sold for 57,500 (IIRC).
Nice car.
Other Studebakers...I saw the black Scotsman wagon, nice, the 55 president speedster, nice too but I think was a no sale at 17K or so. I also saw the 39 champ, the blue GT hawk (looked nice).
Overall, I did not think the cars were selling as high as they have been selling in general.
It was a hot day. I drank about 8 water bottles, ate a foot long corn dog and a regular corn dog, had a mountain dew, and two small peanut butter sandwiches I took along.
Good day. Left this morning at 8 am and got back around seven.
