Thanks Jay Bob,
I tried a bit more and then figured out what I really do not need to take that thing off. If I disconnect the large coolant hose from the firewall and the small hose from the EGR motor, I can easily take off the whole left manifold along with the motor still attached to the manifold, no problem!

@#$@# service manual keep it simple!

Strike gently but firmly such that you get it to rotate. Once it starts turning then you can grab the top and start wiggling it back and forth and finally it will break free so you can pull it up.
