Just another update, J&J's in Clifton Springs never closed, they are owned by Northside Salvage in East Rochester and #1 Auto Salvage in Geneva. Northside Salvage has a bunch of R107 parts, and the last few times I was at J&J's, they had a variety of R107s, including a couple of Euro models. On my last visit, I found a 280SL that I picked clean, including the top and a bunch of factory stamped specialty tools that somebody left in the trunk.
Trout's in Waterloo is in the process of converting into a processing facility in the face of EPA regulations and the COVID-19 pandemic. When I was last there in the fall of 2020, they had drastically reorganized the yard and scrapped over 200 cars. The owners set aside a W114 and a W115 in the classic area, but the fate of the other cars in the yard is
TBD. In the fall, they still had two W116s, including a Euro 280SE and 300SD, a handful of W123s including a 300TD, and even a nice S124. The Euro bumpers off the W116 280SE are currently on my '77 280SE.
Joe Ottati in Burdett, NY has over 600 European cars spread across his vineyard and tucked away in his wooded area along the ridge. He is not a junk yard because you must buy a car whole, but I would assert that 90% of what he has would be strictly for parts. Many of these cars are rusty, but they are often complete. Some have uncracked dashes and decent interiors, others are strong runners, despite what appearances would indicate. Many W123s, W108s, and some other oddball models. Prices start at $700/car and go up from there. There are some cars that he is particularly attached to, so be prepared for an offer higher than you expected, but he can be a fair negotiator. I have several friends who have purchased cars from him, and I have my sights set on a couple unusual cars up along the ridge in the hidden areas.
