Well to answer a few questions:
I sold the W124 due to the mountain of dollars I spent into the car. I am not complaining, because the car taught me how to fix a lot of things. It also taught me a lot about how cars operate. The car got a lot of looks and a lot of compliments, but the bottom line is the cost factor. I bought the W124 for $7,000, and spent well over $10,000 into it. Trans, motor repairs, parts and the customization. I had the car for about 2 years, and put 14k miles on it in that time. I enjoyed repairing and modding the car though.
Why the Monte Carlo?
Well I was leaning towards an MB, but the only MB that was in my price range was a W202 (1994-00) and maybe a few (high mileage) W210's. I then looked at the Lincoln LS, and the (98-02)Pontiac Grand Prix (GTP). The Lincoln was way too overpriced, and the Pontiac had a really ugly interior. I test drove the Monte Carlo LS, but it was too tame, and a flat out sad excuse for a car. I then test drove the SS. That car had the bigger motor, better handling, better suspension, dual exhaust, Homelink System, the works. I then started looking for Monte Carlo SS's, I was sold on that car. The right Monte finally came around, after a 5 month search. The Monte I purchased has a warranty until 2006, and it is a pleasure to drive. It is just a big car, parking and opening those big doors will take a while to get used to. If I could have, I would have kept the W124 and purchased the Monte also. The Monte is paid off, so I have no payments to worry about. The w124 will always be missed, but the Monte is making me very content with the purchase.
