While acceptable, it is not normal for a healthy motor.

The last 603 motors got a bad rap about bending rods on #1 cyl. Story often was it was carbon from the EGR. I have seen a number of oil eaters that we never figured out. Put a turbo on one and VG oil seals on a couple. Then we came across a complete failure oil was running out the tailpipe.

Thinking it was a serious internal, a motor overhaul was sold and the head was removed. Below are pictures of the problem. I have seen it on three more motors since. I've heard the problem was fixed in later motors so you might be safe. I would recommend keeping a close eye on it.
