Nope they won't fit into a 300SD (and assuming D either) trunk, the trunk is physically big enough, but the opening isn't. I found this out when I bought a metal 55 gallon drum and tried to fit it in the trunk of the car after I brought it home in the van. This was to see if it would fit...I was disappointed. It does fit in the back seat of the car though! At least in an SD it does. Maybe with a plastic drum you could "squash it" into the trunk and make it go in there, then it would fit....but a metal one is no go...and its only a few inches too big!
