The biotech company LS9 Inc. is using single-celled bacteria to create an oil equivalent. These petroleum "production facilities" are so small, you can see them only under a microscope.
Now thats what I am talking about.

I was reading popular mechanics the other day, they mentioned something about that, but didn't go into detail. Pretty neat.

TylerH860 08-14-2008 02:28 AM

I wouldn't dare tell Turbo or Norm what I'm feeding them.

I imagine it would not taste anything like D2 or CornyD

JackG 08-14-2008 08:01 AM

You got to be shytin me......Ok, somebody had to say it:D.

I think I saw this in the news a few months back. If I'm not mistaken its in a development center. Sort of an industial zone setup. Basically, incentives such as cheap rent to help them and other bussnises get started. Between that and alge production, a least there is hope.

I wonder if it's really as easy as giving feedstock to the algae and it "poops" a diesel equivalent.

In the algae to biodiesel process, oil extraction is a large hurdle, then it still needs to be processed into fuel. If this variation of E Coli can ferment into a biodiesel, that would be incredible.

"Poop?"

The main thing I would worry about is ..................what does the exhaust smell like?:eek2::oops:

Having used biodiesel, and as many of you have probably observed, the exhaust tends to have an odor reminiscent of the "base oil".

pawoSD 08-14-2008 12:16 PM

Now they just need to develop it further and get it into effective production, then we can all drive around on low cost poop diesel! :D

This and low taxes help stimulate the economy and encourage investment! How long do you think we would have even this kind of small growth if Obama got elected? He has made so many promises already that we would be on the hook for $5600.00 so far and that does not include his global poverty tax!

derburger 08-14-2008 02:15 PM

I'm sure the exhaust of micro-poop would smell better than the burning dinosaurs diesel smell. Which is better, a car that runs on burger grease, dinosaurs, or poop? Probably poop.

Yeah probably poop, but my grease from the local doughnut shop and bakery would give poop a run for it's money!

By all means lets fund wars and not help people in poverty. Wars are much more important. And lets drill holes in every pristine wildlife refuge possible to get every last drop of oil. Oh, and all republicans should be completely tax exempt, in fact, rich people should be paid by the government. We'll call it a "thank you for being rich" gift.

:D

This has been a SarcasmComment(TM) :D :D

We now return to normal diesel programming. ;)

Between the e-coli diesel production and the very promising algae-diesel stuff going on, it looks like we may have some good diesel substitutes in the not too distant future! There is a company out in Nevada that can produce enormous quantities of algae diesel using little to no land, in the desert!

Oh, sure, let's create a welfare state with our supposed global responsibilities and fund foreign governments while ignoring our infrastructure right here at home!:o Why we could could even become the welfare state for corrupt nations like Mexico who export their poor to us and do our best to silence voices who wonder why there is no such liberal support for the American Citizens who's taxes paid out $250 BILLION in foreign subsidies! :mad:To corrupt nation ruled by drug cartekls who have been caught here in Phoenix selling Meth, Crack, Marijuana and Heroin to our children on school property!

Democrats should be honored for standing in the way of every bi-partisan bill before them if it disagrees with their liberal bveliefs even though the American People hold Congress at a 9% approval rating for the first time in history, incindentally while it's under Democratic control!

Let's completely forget that we do not have giant drilling rigs that take up several city blocks when drilling for our own resources in pristine wildlands for our own resources. We can just keep sending billions of dollars of wealth to countries that hate us while embracing tolerance as our last hurrah for a dying nation that liberal ideology opened the door for.:(

We can always say no to wars even if it means we appease bullies we become enslaved to and call it Democracy conveniently forgetting we are a Republic!

Or we could listen to the words of genius by Thomas Paine below!:D

Sorry, just had to add some common sense to a volatile political ideology that has it's roots in smalltown and small business America making these strides we seem to be embracing right here in this forum, like Fuels from algae and E-Coli poop!:D

Kinda hard to cure the patient when it's in denial about being sick. Our future can be bright IF we are wiling to work for it. Socialism and liberalism is the antithesis to that!;)

Valcent Technologies is also making biodiesel right here in the Arizona desert using algae in sight glass tubes recovering nearly 100% (99.1%) of the water necessary.:D

WTF???? The Reeps in the Senate have participated in a record number of filibusters. Let me repeat that for you. They have set a record for filibusters, dude. It's not the Dems that are standing in the way of bi-partisanship.

Again, WTF???? Question:Where does the oil currently go that our wonderful oil companies produce from Alaska? Answer: it is sold to China. You see, the oil cartel that is currently running this country doesn't care whether or not we Americans get cheap gas. There is an actual disincentive for them to increase production, which is why they refuse to drill on the 68 million acres of federal land that they currently hold leases on.

You see demand is down and supply is more than adequate. Therefore, increasing supply would force the price down and harm their profits which they're reaping at record levels. Moreover, the argument that Big Oil needs to make large profits to re-invest in new sources is a crock given what ExxonMobil is doing with their profits. And that is buying back stock and paying out bonuses to their top executives.

Now if you're arguing that we should nationalize our oil resources and remove the oil companies altogether then I'm with you. However, Rush hasn't implanted that thought in your brain so let's move on.

What does this mean? Have we gone to war against the House of Saud?
