Diesel additives and biodiesel
 

I know there are tons of biodiesel threads but I just bought a biodiesel 300cd and had a can of diesel additive fuel injector cleaner or whatever from a previous 300cd that was not biodiesel ... will it work with bio? or is it a dumb queston?

Biodiesel and petro diesel are compatible (and are often sold as blends). Since additives can be a high portion of D2, I would expect to have no problem with running it (and it has been my experience in the past).

Is it a converted car for waste vegetable oil? What makes it a biodiesel car? (note: biodiesel is NOT the same as WVO)

well... I'm knew to biodiesel... and I just bought this car... here in nocal we have several available biodiesel outlets.... I assume these biodiesel places are using some sort of filtered vege oil It seems to suit my car just fine although the price is .50 higher than regular diesel
per gallon that is...

but I imagine that might change as the economy might get better.... I don't have the ability to do the waste oil thing... only bio or real desiel from someone who sells it... it seems I get 25 mpg on the bio or maybe better but not much i'm not sure arab oil will get better mileage....from my past experience with 300cds

thanks for you input... i think the additives are just intended to clear the injectors and maybe boost octane a bit but what do I know!

Don't get BioDiesel confused with Wast Vegetable Oil. BioDiesel is NOT simply filtered WVO. It is a little more complicated than that.

When you enter the Diesel Discussion here, look at the top of the thread list. There is a pinned forum just for WVO and BioDiesel. You can go there and read all about it until your hearts content.

Your fuel mileage will drop while running BioDiesel NOT increase. The percentage of the drop in MPG's depends on the blend. A blend of B20 would return better MPG's than B99 or B100.

While running B100 I tried a diesel additive (RedLine "85 Plus") to see if it would compensate for the drop in fuel economy. It did not make a noticeable effect, at least not enough to compensate for my sometimes heavy right foot.

When B100 got way too expensive I switched to B20 and have used it in all three diesels with good results. Even as little as 5% biodiesel adds enough lubricity to petroleum-based diesel fuel that no other additive is needed. The local source sells B20 for the same price as D2 so it's a no-brainer.
