LoveCraft SVO System?????

Hi Everyone,

I have heard the Lovecraft systems are terrible and would like to get some advice. Here is the situation.

I got a '81 Mercedes 300SD Turbor in near perfect condition with a LoveCraft system on it. The car bogs down and stalls at every 10-100 miles. The place where filter goes has no filter inside and about 2" of black gook on the top you can see through the clear plastic casing.

What should I do? I could care less about running it on veggi I just want it to run. I only put diesel in it never run it on veggi oil. Do I have to remove the system completely or can I just clean the filter case, put regular diesel in it and be good to go? All suggestion GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks for the help - Patrick

Single tank "conversions" are less than worthless.

Luckily the "lovecrap" system is nothing more than a poor filter and the stock fuel filter hacked up as a "heater". Removing it should be a pretty simple and straightforward process. I feel for the poor soul that blew $750 on it.

Can I leave it on and just run straight diesel or should I remove it?

It would be best to remove it. All its doing is adding flow restrictions and possible air/fuel leak points.

You must be new here, asking about lovecrap. What should you do? I don't know since you already bought it, otherwise I would have told you to run as fast and far as you can. I would completely remove everything and PRAY that there is no damage done to the engine from the awful kit.

Depends on if you have the Davco or "sock filter" type. A picture would be very helpful.

I'll post some pictures. Good thing I didn't buy - I acquired it - the body and interior are near perfect so it would great if I could save her.

Check the state of other parts of the fuel system, like the cartridge and final filters, make sure the by removing the lovecrap, you will have a stock system. I remember reading that the cartridge filter was drilled out or some such thing in the lovecrap process.

Some WVO conversions involve plugging the passage in one of the banjo bolts leading to the cartridge filter assy, you might wish to check/restore it.

Just curious how many miles are on the system?

I'd remove the Lovecraft system. If you really want to run veg oil, build a proper two tank system. Otherwise don't even think about it.

To remove the system. Find the two metal fuel lines in the engine bay. Find the one that is going into the Lovecraft fuel filter assembly via a rubber hose. Pull the hose off the filter assebly and hook it to the clear pre filter you can see in one of your pics. Then connect a hose from the other hard line to the top of the stock fuel filter. The flow should go like this

Tank -> Supply Line -> Prefilter -> Lift Pump ->Side of Stock Fuel Filter -> Injection Pump -> Return Via Injector return lines and IP Return to Top of Fuel filter -> Return Metal Line -> Tank. Hope this helps.

If you only intend to run diesel then remove the kit and sell it.

I have no idea how many miles are on the system. Do you know how hard it is to remove this system?

Do you think the kit messed up the engine - is that why I should sell it?

Good to hear! Just remove the kit, diesel purge it - might loosen up some of the crud on the injectors.
